Why is over 90% of Turmeric excreted?

Turmeric is a super food, no doubt about it. But how do you get the most out of this super food Curcuma? Due to its chemical structure, the bioactive substances called curcuminoids can only be absorbed very sparingly by the body. The curcuminoids are polyphenols and are fat-soluble, but over 90% of curcuma as powder is excreted in the feces without having done any good.

Bioavailability can be increased in various ways. By adding freshly ground pepper to your fresh turmeric, it is believed that the bioavailability is increased by a factor of 2000%. Even better bioavailability is achieved if curcuma is dissolved and wrapped in lipids, that is, if it is wrapped in liposomes. This protects the sensitive active ingredients from direct degradation and can be absorbed directly through the mucous membranes of the mouth if it is drunk and kept in the mouth for a while.
